Everyone in St. Louis Missouri knows about the old, forlorn mansion at the end of Fair Oaks Drive. They've heard the rumors that it's haunted, seen the newspaper stories of past suicides and have observed the eerily removed girl who lives inside with her mother and stepfather.

Abigail Carter just doesn't understand. People don't make sense to her; the awkward eye contact, the forced interactions, she could never master them. Her mother used to be the exception to that rule, but ever since she married Andy, she was a mystery, too. So Abigail wasn't surprised that people avoided her, in fact, she preferred it that way. The only friend Abigail needed was her pen pal, Mary, who always seemed to know exactly what she was thinking. But when her old house reveals its secrets to her, secrets that only a few before her have ever uncovered, Abigail suddenly feels as though she belongs.

The door to The Other World is located within her decrepit mansion, and with tinker bell and the cheshire cat as her guide, Abigail slowly submerges herself in a different sort of reality. But soon she realizes the World might not be as innocent as it originally seemed. Blood and belief are needed to sustain it and Abigail is the intended victim. As her sanity slowly slips away, Abigail finds herself doing things she never thought herself capable of. And when she turns to Mary for help, she finds herself wondering if her far away friend ever existed at all.

Teetering on the brink of sanity, Abigail must either break free from the hold The Other World has on her, or be lost within it forever.
