"When our universe was created, the one known as the God of All cautioned over the safety of his creations. In doing so, he created other gods, some for worlds, some for solar systems, galaxies, and so forth.
The fourteenth planet made by his hand became known as Ephridus, reigned twelve gods meant to balance the world and every life it brought to light.
Two gods of intellect, two of emotions, two of strength, two of land, two of sea, two of sky. Twins of an element with no knowledge of their purpose. The God of All never revealed his intentions to the wandering gods of this world.
Eons after, the two sides have long waged war on the opposing six. These gods couldn't harm or kill their twins or their allies, hence leading their devotees into the never ending feud.

Along with the discovery of their existence, a prophecy from the well of life emerged from its depth, it read "the blood of man shall form his manger, a god killer brings forth worldly danger, the gods of old shall perish in strife, when the last..."

Cambions are doomed to tragedy. They are weak, sickly creatures that rarely live to see their twentieth year. Ray refuses to resign himself to that fate. Upon learning of the Crimson Sheath-an artifact capable of preserving his life-Ray is prepared to fight, steal, and kill to get his hands on it. He is not prepared for Landon. Landon is an orphan with no memories of his parents, the only inheritance left to him a dagger, sleeping in a crimson sheath. Though he has no love of bloodshed and no use for a dagger, Landon isn't about to let Ray take his only link to his forgotten history, even if that means following the cambion past the edge of the world and into the shadow beyond.
