Prologue ~

Life was going well for us, a family of six living a modest but happy life. Our parents worked hard to provide for us, but we didn't mind the hand-me-downs or the occasional missed meal. As long as we were together, nothing else mattered.

But when my sister and I hit fourteen, things changed. Our parents became distant, shutting us out without any explanation. Even my younger sisters, Adeline and Juliette, were left to fend for themselves. I mean, who abandons their kids for two years without so much as a call or a visit? It was messed up.

I knew something was wrong with our parents. They were sick, mentally and emotionally. When they finally came back, I didn't know what to expect. Would they apologize? Would they explain why they left us? Nope. They acted as if nothing happened. No "sorry" or even a "hello."

It marked the end, a closing chapter that paved the way for a new beginning to unfold.
