Connie just wants to live a quiet life. Ideally, this involves running her café, and minding her own business. But a wrench gets thrown into her plans when new neighbours move in upstairs and start dragging up a past she very much wanted to stay dead.

This story is a re-write of one of my fanfic stories (The Kidd Pirate Café), but revamped for a modern, non-fanfic setting.

TWs: violence, abuse (sexual, verbal, physical; not described in detail), miscarriage (not graphically described), alcohol use

This story sucks, don't read it! It's amazing how quickly your life can change. In a slow town like this, where nothing exciting ever happens, where nothing ever changes, one single moment can alter your life forever, for better, or for worse. Sometimes, we're lucky enough to be able to recognise these particular moments, and take a leap of faith, but, more times than not, they just happen without us even realizing what's going on until it's already too late. Tonight, a simple Saturday night, just like any other, would turn out to be one of the most defining moments of my life. Ace is living a slow life, knowing nothing other than drinking with his friends and the motorcycle club that raised him, waiting to reconnect with his father who has just been released from prison after a fifteen year sentence. Life is simple, though he thought. Until the night he meets Jenna, running from her haunting past and the man that she is desperately trying to escape. Ace is dead set on protecting Jenna, but, as she slowly learns to trust him enough to open up to, he finds himself landing in the middle of a human trafficking operation and a feud that goes way back, between the ringleader and his club. Suddenly, life doesn't seem so simple... Work in progress, especially the blurb! This story has content which may offend some readers. Mild coarse language! Physical and sexual violence! Lots of drug references! First draft! I don't own the cover image! I'm a disappointment to my family!

"I told you not to run," He growled, glaring down at me. I tried to beg but when I opened my mouth no words came out, just a whimper. Kneeling down on his haunches so he was face to face with me, his gaze consumed me. Pushing a blonde lock behind my ear he trailed the back of his fingers down my cheek and across my jaw. I was shaking under his touch, anticipating his next move. "You should have listened." ________________________________ Declan Byrne is the underboss for the Irish mafia in the city of Portland where a new and dangerous street drug called Z is taking over. The drug is marketed by the pharmaceutical companies as a miracle opioid yet its street version is causing its addicted users to hallucinate and see terrifying things, do horrific things. It just so happens that street Z is being distributed throughout the city by their rival crime family, the Russians. Declan is tasked with finding out how exactly the Russians are getting their hands on the drug so they can stop the flow of the drug that's destroying their city.
