Escaping arranged marriages was a hard and frustrating task, yes you had to find as many flaws and reasons why you shouldn't marry, much less live with the person/empire, but it was most definitely not impossible. To German Empire it took a bit of convincing to get his father to break the contract, but he managed fairly easily, at least, it was easy to him.
