Ichigo Kurosaki is incomplete, he realised how severe the consequence of the Final Getsuga Tenshou was as soon as he exited the form. It was an instinctual knowledge engraved within his soul that he ignored in order to protect his friends.
The next 10 months he wallows in a depression that no one in soul society can relate to.
During those months he hears a few things, reflects on his past and decides to actually do something. After all, this urge to fight keeps on growing and he doesn't feel as disturbed about it as he would have.
