Tom wasn't always as unhinged as everyone thinks, before the events of my Bloody Valentine he was a very different person. His father's death left him in the hands of his godparents Mr and Mrs Miller where he meets Clay Miller. The two become as close as brothers and maybe even closer when Harry Warden shows up. He destroys Tom's new life and the trauma causes them to merge, ten years later Tom is blackmailed by a sketchy lawyer called Harvey Dent who asks him to retrieve a runaway who turns out to be his old friend. But there's something different about him that Tom can't seem to grasp, he's like a child.
