Seventeen-year-old Jacob lives on a ranch owned by John Williams, who took him in at the age of twelve after his father died, in exchange for work. He has learned his way around the ranch, doing exactly as he's told as to not get in trouble from his direct boss, Benny. John didn't allow him to go to school or leave the ranch unless necessary for work. Jacob suffered from abuse as a child from a family friend and his father before his death, and still deals with some abuse from Benny and John. The only light he sees in his life is John's daughter, Katy. She's beautiful but completely off limits. Until they accidently end up at the pond together behind the ranch in the middle of the night. As a fire starts between the two, they have to hide their affection for one another. If John ever found out, he'd be dead. Jacob felt life wasn't so bad after all. That is, until someone from his past resurfaces, and Jacob feels the dreadful fear of the little boy he once was.
