Lily and James went out on a date while Lilys grandmother took their young twins, Emma and Harry trick or treating. The children returned a few hours later and were tucked into bed by their grandmother, Cheryl Evans. Cheryl was reading on the chair in the twin's nursery when a dark figure barged through the door, Voldemort. Cheryl didn't fight all she did was stand in front of the twins, willing to die for her young grandchildren. 
"No!" Cheryl cried blocking the crib with her body.
Cheryl died that night, but so did Voldemort. Cheryl had protected Emma and Harry from Voldemort by sacrificing herself. Not a hair on the twin's body was touched. The only reminder of that night was a destroyed house, Grandma Cheryl's dead body, and a lightning bolt scar on each of the twins' heads.
