An anxious young father has just returned from a long Business trip, only to find his child sloppily wrapped in a soiled blanket. With no bottle in sight, his only choice? To gnaw on his tiny fist, whimpering quietly in his crib, as the shrill giggle; LOUD moans of a soon to be EX Wife; followed up by a nasty dark chuckle & murmured dirty words, only enhance the nightmare of his current reality making IT ALL even more confusing & painful. His stunned mind recalls her last parting words to him two weeks ago. Already straddling that thin line of running late, he'd been hurrying out the front door to catch his Uber ride to the Airport. THAT was when she'd out of the blue, all but spat, "I DON'T wanna be a wife or mother any longer!" The shock of her SUDDEN cruel words sent him hastily stumbling out their front door, down the steps & toward the long driveway of the house he was CONSTANTLY busting his ASS for; always putting forth the efforts toward doing his best; willing to forgo sleep or proper sustenance, JUST to make it a better home for the three of them. Only now, he feels numb, like he'd been awoken from a deep sleep. Sheepishly he's realizing how, 'NOT only had it ALL been just a huge LIE on her part? Now that the curtain of HER duplicity, with its 'OZ like existence' been yanked back, TRUE deceit had nowhere to hide; leaving darkness no other course but spilling out on FULL display. SO MUCH SO? HOW could HE become more woke!?' ESPECIALLY looking around. Left trembling; quietly swallowing sobs threatening to break from his lips while recalling picture perfect images of his baby's formerly tidy & clean Nursery; a room that in such a short time, had now been transformed into shocking surroundings; left dirty and neglected; becoming a warped area that has him nearly gagging at the stench! When her bestie's childhood friend Archer gets caught in a messy breakup that spirals into public drama, Amara is asked to keep an eye on him to keep him out of trouble. What she didn't expect was how quickly he'd start showing up everywhere-uninvited, unfiltered, and under her skin. ****************************************************** Archer had sprawled across her bed without asking, one ankle hooked over the other, fingers absently gripping the sheets like he owned the space. His hair kept falling into his eyes as he grinned at her - too casual for someone who'd just invited himself in. "If you keep looking at me like that, I'm gonna start thinking you like me," he mused, voice low and teasing, eyes flicking over her face as if searching for a crack in her expression. Amara exhaled slowly, the sound deliberate. She shifted in her chair, just enough to show she wasn't rattled, closing a little of the distance without moving closer. "I'm looking at you because you're sitting on my bed," she said flatly. His grin deepened, almost sheepish, a flicker of something vulnerable hiding in it. "Well... you didn't tell me to get out." She tilted her head, eyes narrowing, a quiet challenge behind them. "You didn't ask if you could stay." He leaned back on his hands, the pose lazy but his gaze fixed on her, heavy enough to thicken the air between them. "You'd miss me if I left," he murmured, the words half a whisper-like he was testing the truth of it more than making a joke. She studied him for a long moment, really studied him, as if peeling back the bravado to see what sat underneath. Her eyes softened, but her scrutiny didn't fade. She leaned forward a fraction. "Would you miss you if you left?" ❤️ Each character's boards available on my public pinterest account: https://pinterest.com/elliebcarterbooks
