From that moment on, they belong to the government, and must train in government facilities that are a lot like prisons or army bases. Their eyes are changed by machines, and they are identified for the bright aura-like color that surrounds their pupils and contrasts against their natural eye color, "the sunflower effect". The day of the chosen has come, and Luna Valkyrie is a seven. When she is taken by government guards, she believes her life is over. Ezra thought his grades would get him posted to a place in the Navy that reflected his ability, something like First Fleet, the Raiding Nine, or even Home Guard. Humanity's enemy the Preshk where attacking more often and Ezra wanted to be contributing directly to the war effort. Instead he got put on a Scout ship with just one other soul and sent on a five month mission out into deep space. The mission quickly becomes more than the young commander could have ever expected and the fate of humanity lies in how fast he can return back to humanity. This short story is just over 18,000 words and contains sexual content between two men, so If that's not your cup of tea.. don't read :) This is my first attempt at something like this, so feedback is welcome, though be nice :)
