(Book #1 in The Ghosts of Christmas Series)

There is a large, obnoxious house on Benedict Avenue that is haunted by a woman still mourning her dead husband. Bell Whitney, the most celebrated singer in The Havens, is dead, and his widow, Muriel, is still coming to terms with it.

Across the street, lives Paris Baldwin, her oldest friend, and Archie Scott, a private investigator determined to uncover a scandal involving the Whitneys.

Their lives change on the night of Christmas Eve, when a stranger in a top hat and black cloak introduces himself to Muriel as a herald, that is, the Ghost of Season's Death. There to collect the souls of those who would die on Christmas Day in order to deliver them to their own personal heavens before sunrise. He is her only chance at final bliss.

Paris and Archie tag along, eager to get to the bottom of what they suspect is a big conspiracy.

And so Muriel finds herself speeding across star-speckled tundra with a rude ghost, her pragmatic friend and a handsome man intent on knowing everything about her. As they get further along the journey, Paris begins to suspect that Harold is not telling them the whole truth and Archie is convinced that Bell Whitney was murdered.

Regardless, Muriel is desperate to reunite with her dead love before they're lost to the frozen wilderness for good.

Yet will she manage to find Bell? And will it matter if by that time she's already fallen in love with someone else?

It's like if A Nightmare Before Christmas was an adult murder mystery and Niles from The Nanny was the Grim Reaper. But with more kissing.
