The Last Red Convict

Kane is an earth-convict sent on mars, where he spends his life sentence drilling underneath the red mountains, to acquire minerals for the settlements.
One day, a devastating mars quake shakes the planet, breaking the sigil of the mine that barred off a deadly airborne parasite. Kane was mining next to the sigil when the quake broke it, and is now infected. Unlike his less fortunate colleagues, Kane's infection is a lot slower, making him the only one capable to carry an antidote, from the labs near the mines, to the main colony on the red planet.
In the midst of death, rubble, and violent infected, Kane finds a helping dog, who won't be leaving him alone on his quest to save humanity. The two will have to cross the red barren deserts, under radiation and extreme storms.
