Following the Suna and Oto's failed invasion of Konoha, the Third Hokage passed away in the invasion, and the council was set to choose a new Hokage.

But before his passing, Hiruzen named Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze the Fifth Hokage. Naruto recently attained the Genin rank and is now on his way to becoming a Chunin and being able to save Konoha from the One-Tailed Beast. The Monkey King is summoned into the Council Chambers and gives Hiruzen's last will to the Fire Daimyo.

The Konoha Jonin commander, Nara Shikaku, decided to back Naruto as the Fifth Hokage after weighing the pros and cons of the circumstance.

Because of the young Naruto's accomplishments, Fire Daimyo named him the Fifth Hokage of Konoha, making him the youngest Kage in history.
