The book is about a 17-year-old girl called Emily, she wants to commit suicide because she is unhappy, her parents died in a car accident, she lives in an orphanage, but she has no friends and she is always alone. When she really decides to end it all on her 17th birthday, she goes to a nearby bridge, just as she is about to jump, she is saved by a mysterious 19-year-old boy. He brings her back. to the orphanage and disappears from Emily's life again. What he doesn't know is that he is an inspiration for Emily to get her life back on track, and Emily starts working hard on that. When she suddenly realizes that the orphanage is not there for her, she runs away. She goes to that infamous bridge, she has the necessary things with her, but no food and drink, and 1.5 days later she collapses somewhere under a large tree, she is devastated and cannot even get up when a storm breaks out. Lightning strikes and thunder, the boy happens to walk by and pulls her out from under the tree just in time, lightning strikes for a few seconds and the tree is on fire, Emily falls unconscious and she wakes up in the hospital. Where the doctors think the boy is her brother. She is released from the hospital and goes with the mysterious boy. The boy doesn't want to reveal his name because of his background and Emily is allowed to call him Jake. She thinks it's strange, but this Jake has saved her life twice, so she stays with him, they have some adventures together, but when they have a discussion about facing things, she goes back to the orphanage to learn how to it alone survives. The orphanage doesn't look back when she returns, which hurts somewhere, but Emily can now go her own way and find out what she really wants.
