During the war Dulcy was sent away from London to escape the air raids. Now the war is over and she is returning to the city of her birth. War touches the lives of everyone, and children are never an exception. Alone and unwanted, she joins the hundreds of war orphans in the city. But Dulcy is different from many of her fellow orphans and they never fail to remind her of this fact. Just when she is about to give up on it all, a miracle takes place in her life. Will this miracle be enough to give Dulcy the courage to go on, to fight depsite all odds in a world that neither wants nor needs her? Or is it all just a figmant of her imagination that she uses as an escape from the bullies who plague her life?
