"Welcome to paradise," Atlas Sauffmann greets me as I step off his magnificent yacht. Taking in the sight of his luxurious beach house on a secluded island, I smile gratefully. This getaway should be the perfect setting for my husband and I to reconnect, all while celebrating my sister's birthday. So, why can't I shake the feeling that the island's shadows hide terrors greater than my own? As the days unfold and my anxiety deepens, a series of unsettling events begin to cloud my thoughts. Is it the weight of my husband's infidelities? Or the elderly woman performing a beachside ritual? It could be the troubling disappearance of my medication. Or maybe, it's that damned red painting. I try to ignore Atlas's younger brother, the charming Theus. But the effect of his art, his deep, violent brushstrokes in contrast with that white canvas... draws me in deeper by the hour. As my paranoia grows, I start to question everyone around me. Something strange is definitely happening on this island, but if they come for me, I will be ready. "Keep calm, Nora," I remind myself. "These people don't know you. They don't know the things you've done..."
