Lucy and Emmet fell in love after the whole 'Kragle' incident, and both agreed they wanted nothing more than to be together, and started dating. During the Duplo Invasion that would last Five years, Lucy was starting to worry for Emmet about his sweet, innocent, kind personality, and was worried if he didn't change with the times and toughen up, she could lose him, and she wouldn't let that happen. However, after seeing what her Innocent Lover could have turned into by trying to change for her, Lucy remembered why she fell for Emmet in the first place, and knew now he was perfect the way he is.
