《He sat on the chair apprehensively. What if the hat didn't put him anywhere? Was he going to screw up his chance to start over before he even started school?
The hat wondered at his mind. His ability to think on his feet and to stress to an impossible degree made him a candidate for Ravenclaw. He possessed such loyalty and had always strived to work hard; the hat could tell. A Hufflepuff, perhaps? Phil the sorting hat sensed the immense bravery behind the boy's actions despite the fear that was also present in some of his best moments. He also had the ability to bear guilt that he should not carry and take the blame for crimes he did not commit. Perhaps a Gryffindor then. Ah, but there was a darkness to the boy. He longed earnestly for family and forgiveness. Common among the Slytherins, as they were often mistreated or judged. His leadership qualities were strong as well, and he focused well when trying to accomplish important goals. Slytherin was a valid possibility, but where to put him? Phil thought for a moment, if hats could truly think that is.
