Child is a steampunk sci-fi thriller. In second person, present tense, you, a mostly introverted, non-binary ten year old, are found at a train station with no belongings and no memory, by a nice woman in a WWI style gas mask. When nobody can find any leads as to who your parents are or where you came from, she adopts you as her own child. Your search for truth and need for belonging lead you on a bizarre adventure involving a group of train thieves, a message conveyed through ant trails, a group of unqualified astronauts, a chocolate milk-loving drag queen, and a lot of things you would give your left ear to unsee. I'm not sure what this is going to be when I'm done. I've finished the whole plot narrative, but I have to fix the writing, because it's too fast-paced and it's supposed to be slow. Constructive criticism is appreciated. I feel like I should say this so nobody gets confused: It isn't related to anything going on now. It's future/past. The mask thing is just a sci-fi thing.

While I do believe that Blue Sky is the BEST fan-fic for Portal 2 out there, and deserves to be canon, I think that this is still a relatively believable Chell backstory. (This is set after Cave Johnson's death, and before Caroline/GLaDOS killed everyone but the test subjects with neurotoxin, and placed Chell in stasis.) Enjoy! This is not a Chelley fan-fic, and doesn't include Wheatley, as this is set prior to the timeline of the first game. I don't own Portal, Portal 2, or the characters in the game; but this story is my own, from my imagination. I also don't own the amazing cover art, and I don't know who does... same goes for the chapter art, they're all either off of Google or Pinterest! 😂 P.S. the first chapter sort of "sets the scene" for the rest of the book, so bear with me!
