Pandora's Box

Fire was taken from heaven by the god Prometheus and given to the human race, which at first was made up only of men. The first woman, the stunning Pandora, was made by the other gods as a punishment for humanity. Zeus handed her a box as a present, but warned her never to open it. But as soon as he disappeared from view, she removed the lid, letting all the problems of the world escape, never to return. In the box, hidden under the lid, was all that was left: Hope. Thus, anything that appears normal but has the potential to have unpredictably negative effects is referred to as a Pandora's box.
