The undiscovered planet of Milis spins in space around its red dwarf star. Upon Milis, the continent of Verin is set far to the north; for thousands of years Verin has been sustainably warm due to the huge lava lakes that heat the Earth, but the Age of Peace ended when many of the lakes solidified. Only the lands of Eldd and Eladil have any lava lakes remaining. Threonveil is heated from beneath from the residual heat left from the volcanic activity. However, Harrowsfall and Thale are unbearably cold. Most parts of Thale have been abandoned, and in Harrowsfall towns and villages have gathered around the temperate coast. The people of Thale have strived for thousands of years in the cold now, many have grown to like it; Harrowsfall is a nation in tatters with the warm coast being overcrowded and overworked, there's not much left there now; the people of Threonveil can see their fate in the dying people of Thale, and so they must act.
