Mature
Hartley Evans was abandoned by her mother, the only family she ever had, at the young age of eight. A boy only a year older than her, Dallas Parker, found her on the streets one night while scavenging for food. He brought her home, or to an abandoned library they call home, where his three other orphan best friends live, Scooter, Cooper, and Garrett. The group of five grow up together, doing whatever they can to survive and stay out of the system; even if that means it's illegal.

Hartley and Dallas are best friends, given he saved her life. He knows everything about her, and she knows everything about him. Wherever one goes, the other follows. But then they all grown up, and the lines between friendship and love start to blur. The habit to lie, cheat, and steal is all they know. Trouble is the first thing they learned. How will they keep this from ruining their friendship? Or will they cross that line and let it burn?

His sister Kelis finds someone in need of a roommate so he moves in with the girl and gives her his middle name, Lucas. He quickly becomes addicted to the girl and once he gets one taste he's done for. He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past. He becomes enamored with her, feels like she was made for him while still battling the demons of his past and soon it all becomes too much for him to handle. He makes a heartbreaking decision, thinking it's what's best for both of them and everything changes.
