Kousei knows that all is lost. Kaori's surgery was never guaranteed to work. Still, he heads straight to Totsuhara University Hospital after the Eastern Japan Piano Competition is done. He needs to hear the news himself and get some closure. But when he arrives, things do not go as he expected. Kaori is there, alive and whole! Standing! Kousei is overjoyed that the girl he loves is alive. He and Kaori share a tender embrace, so glad to be together again. But a singular question nags at the back of Kousei's mind.
