Adeline Rae Carson , aka Addie, is 14 years old and lives with her stepfather.

When she steals from a grocery store due to circumstance, Sergeant Hank Voight is there and is intrigued but also concerned for the girl who although doesn't physically look like Erin, reminds him of her but with Addie's trust issues and abusive past she doesn't believe Hank's genuine concern and mistakes him for wanting to take advantage of her.

Will Addie be part of a family who take care of each other or will she push them away due to her past?
