John Laurens lived an uneventful life, devoid of any excitement or adventure. Though he tried to remember every detail from his high school and college days, his memories were fragmented and often failed to make sense. He was heavily reliant on his medication to function normally, and missing a dose made him feel lost and insignificant. His best friend, Thomas Jefferson, was always there to remind him to take his pills when he forgot. John spent most of his days at work, but his mind was often preoccupied with thoughts about his life. He was aware of his attraction towards men, but he couldn't figure out how to navigate his life with this knowledge.
