Mary Jackson was born with a curse. She can't look anyone in the eyes without killing them. After her mother left her, it was always just Mary and her father. But when a curious girl approaches Mary at the bus stop, things start going from bad to worse. Mary goes back home, sobbing while her thoughts turned to her father's disappointment that she couldn't even make it through the first day of freshman year. When Mary starts seeing the spirits of the people she has killed with a glance through the corner of her eye or behind her friends reading to feast, she goes to her father, terrified that her curse has finally taken effect.
