Avery Castle was born Avery Rogers but her father became the famous crime writer, he changed their surnames. Avery was 21 when her dad met Detective Kate Beckett and her team at the NYPD. Coincidentally, that was also when Avery joined the unit as a training officer looking to learn about and eventually join the unit full time. While she joins her father and Kate in the field often, she also spends lots of time with Kevin Ryan his partner Esposito.
