It is so easy when thinking about buying or even owning a dog to think you know exactly what good and responsible dog ownership really means. Some dog owners do and some don't so it's never a bad thing to remind ourselves about what this can entail. Can we improve the way we think when owning a dog? Probably the answer is yes, there's usually room for improvement in most things!

It is easy to underestimate how challenging and restrictive owning a dog can be whilst looking forward to all the positives, when we see those gorgeous little puppies so it's wise to remember what it really takes to be a good dog owner.

So we hope this little guide may help even if there's one point you maybe haven't previously considered then that's great!

At Yellow Dog UK we promote good and responsible dog ownership and we fully support the Blue Cross dog safety programme. There are some basic's that most good dog owners all follow and our little friends need every day...

"Hi, I'm looking for a dog." Mark told the lady at the counter of the animal shelter. "I'll show you our selection." The woman smiled kindly as she guided Mark to the back. Mark's eyes scanned the many good dogs, listening to their barks while feeling his heart break at the sight. He walked past many breeds such as German Shepherds, mutts, and evens few poodles before he eventually reached the end with no dog in mind that he wanted. Until a new one came in. "I found her abandoned in a home that the owners had moved out of awhile ago, and she put up a hell of a fight to stay and wait for the owners to return. She's really sick too, as well as dehydrated and malnourished." A man spoke in a rush as he barged in holding a lump of fur in his hands. Mark could see the dirty white-blonde fur on the dog slowly rise up and down with each breath it took, her large, sad chocolate brown eyes looking into Mark's own eyes with a mournful look that made Mark want to hug the puppy and never let go. She let out a whimper before she lowered her head and closed her eyes, making tears well up in Mark's eyes. "That's the dog I want." Mark decided aloud. "A-are you sure? We have plenty of other dogs-" "She's perfect." Mark interrupted. The man exchanged glances with the woman before gently handing the puppy over. "What's her name?" Mark asked softly as he watched the puppy lick his fingers with a small smile. "Sephora according to the rope the owners tied to her before leaving." The man stated as he pulled out a tattered piece of rope with her name burnt onto it. "Sephora...like the makeup. How about Chica?" Mark whispered to the puppy. Chica let out a soft yip as she curled into a tighter ball in Mark's hand. "Chica it is." Mark chuckled, delicately running a finger down her soft back. "You're a good dog." Mark told her as he walked towards the exit. "You'll always be my good dog." Mark promised her.

Luke is back and the family is set to grow again. With kids in school and a toddler running around how was he going to balance it all. Then trouble comes and before he knows it he's sinking fast in responsibilities. How was he going to balance it. Would his mates be able to cope? Would his kids get the attention and care that they needed? What about the local pack, all the packs around the country, what about all his people around the world? Is it too much for one guy? Can he make mistakes, some not so little, and be forgiven? Will family turn out to really be all you need? I was just gathering up to head into town for a lunch I had planned with the local Tiger queen when I heard steps and Honey bounced into the room. She bounced over and kissed me deeply. My desire that kept getting stirred and then denied reacted instantly and I was crushing her in my arms. But I was once again forced to let go when the alarm on my phone went off telling me to leave for lunch. I gave an annoyed growl. "I take it you missed me?" Honey said taking a deep breath. "I hate when my mates have to leave. Add to that I have the hard on of a lifetime that has been teased three times in the last twenty four hours. I am gonna have to resort to taking it into my own hands if I can't finagle five minutes alone with a mate." "If you didn't have to run off to that lunch I'd kiss it, make it better." I groaned and kissed her again. "Each time I've gotten close a kid has interrupted. I love them but they need to go to their grandpa's for an hour or three."
