Eve Olson. An eighth grader that has been emotionally hardened by an already difficult upbringing gets kidnapped by a complete stranger in her hometown. A place where she had always felt like danger, while it might exist for her, was far too unlikely to worry herself about. She had greatly underestimated Colby, the man who is keeping her captive as a new replacement for a girl who had been imprisoned the same way she now, in Colby's obsessively clean and inescapable trap. As Eve continues to unravel the story of Colby's past victim she begins to understand that any abuse he could dish out in the moment would not compare to what would be in store for her if she were to live past a certain age in this house.

This is a book about feeling isolated. Isolated from your family because they don't trust a single word that comes out of your mouth. Isolated from your friends because they're all stuck in space and you have no means of contacting them. Occasionally they show up in your dreams but that's entirely out of your control. Isolated from the world because you've been assigned the title of yet another headcase; a victim of trauma so terrifying that you can no longer tell fantasy from reality. If they'd just trust you for five minutes, they'd understand they are jumping to the wrong conclusions. This is a story about not knowing who you can trust and questioning your own sanity. ...Did you know your memories may have been distorted without you realising? Lance sure didn't. Well... not until now at least. TW: Anxiety, drug use, depression, murder and a lot of mentions of abuse/kidnapping.
