After defeating a nearby boss in the last island they encountered, Luffy and his crew were forced to wander around in the sea since the Log had been spinning round with no sense of direction for the last day or so.

So it was a super shock when they suddenly passed something through the sky that looked like an invisible barrier, hiding a whole immersive island, bustling with unlimited human on top of it.
