"Sovereign Seas"

Set against the politically charged backdrop of the South China Sea territorial disputes, "Sovereign Seas" is a gripping tale of nationalism, identity, and the consequences of unchecked ambition. As nations grapple for control, the discovery of mysterious eggs in the seabed and the subsequent seismic activities entwine myth with reality, suggesting the awakening of an ancient sea guardian. Amidst escalating tensions, the narrative follows Filipino activists, journalists uncovering secrets, and international power plays. Through their interconnected stories, the novel delves deep into the sacrifices made in the name of sovereignty and the fine line between national pride and aggressive expansion. The climax converges on a singular question: Will humanity heed the ocean's ominous warnings, or are they doomed to repeat the mistakes of their forebears?

A 2019 Wattys entry deeply into climate change, global warming, and environmental destruction, especially the nuclear kind! A lot of true facts are embedded in this story which has both true and fictional characters. Who is to be believed is for you to decide. The chapters are many but many are short. Still, it is a full-sized novel with promise for future adventures. Plot: An international crew of scientists board a large state-of -the art oceanographic vessel privately funded by an anonymous source. The itinerary is to travel down the west coast of the Americas and travel the South Pacific to Antarctica. The team plans to visit many known sites of hydrothermal vents using a device called the MAPR, searching vents for a bacterium that seems promising in use as a way to fight carbon dioxide emissions. But one of the two junior scientists on the team soon realizes that secrets are being kept, and makes promises to keep some, while learning that some onboard have entirely different agendas. To complicate matters, this junior scientist's desire for a special friendship grows in intensity, just as mysterious murmurings and strange sightings intensify. And then, the ship experiences a sequence of events that will draw world attention and leave all of us with more questions than answers. "If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water." In the alternative universe, there are various species of creatures. Some can fly, others can swim, and many just roam on the grass. In the recent days, the Mystical World has become dangerous due to a poisonous weed like plant, the highly endangered two legged, horned, fluttering orange creatures, the Lalaoofs, are dying faster and younger every year. Now the few that are left are forced to isolate themselves in an underground bunker. A curious, and adventurous Lalaoof named Wilda however, disobeys her family and explores the world to search for a place where more Lalaoofs could be hidden, and a way to stop the dangerous plants, despite her unfortunate small wings and lack in flying. Wilda unlocks many deep and mysterious secrets of the world, and even some of her family's secrets. Will Wilda find out why she can bearly get two feet off the ground with her wings, or will she suddenly become mistakenly famous with a huge lie? Seaborn Seraqua is a Sea Creature called an Aqua San. Seaborn and his family are forbidden to go on land, and have been forbidden for the last one hundred years. When practical, and wise Seaborn meets the strong willed Wilda, he changes her entire life. Is it for the better or worse... or both? I considered writing this book for two years and I am finally doing it! By the way, this is a very spunky story, which also has multiple narrators! Enjoy the story, and don't forget, for the Mystical Creatures, they rely more on nature than technology, so they are very much different than humans!

The sea "The sea... it's not just our home, it's our everything. It's where my family's secrets hide, where our history whispers through the currents. Every wave carries a story, every tide a lesson. I feel the sea's heartbeat, its pulse echoing mine. My family's legacy is woven into the sea's fabric. I feel proud to be a guardian of these secrets, a keeper of our mermaid traditions.(by meta) The sea is a cold, unforgiving abyss, A graveyard of lost souls, where darkness dismiss. Its waves crash against the shore, a mournful dirge, A reminder of the horrors that lurk beneath. In its depths, terrors lurk, unseen and unknown, Monsters that feast on fear, and souls overthrown.....(by draven) The sea.... my home It is my everything, it is a part of me I love the sea and the sea loves me Why? I hate the sea, the sea left me Am I not good enough It's gone The sea has a significant meaning to everyone for me it reminds me of home, how I feel safe in her hands, she's my home but then she left me with all the burdens, she is gone, never to be seen again, maybe in the Dreamland, but who I'm I kidding she kept visiting everyone in the dream except me What do you think of the sea?
