This story is definitey not anime, the names are just japanese. This story is just about a japanese-american girl, Niyuki (the name won't be mentioned much in the story)  who started her adventure on a letter she recieved from the mail. 
She got overexcited because she had never in her life (not even once) got mail. Oh yes, inspiration. The only part I have to give inspiration credit (the mailbox bit) is for Harry Potter by J.K Rowling (A.K.A Joanne Rowling).
