Blood stained Asteria's uniform as she stood still, unable and unwilling to believe what they just witnessed.
'Cassius was a good guy,' her heart whispered.
'The blood and the corpse over there beg to differ,' hissed her mind.
Lexington was still on his knees on the stone floor, holding the weapon and staring with horror at the corpse laid in front of them.
Asteria's eyes met Cassius's cold ones. Emotionless.
Everything she gave up for him was for nothing.
"Please tell me it wasn't all a lie," she begged, tears glittering on her cheeks.
He turned to the Sentinels behind him. "Seize them," he said softly.

A pause. Then, softer-hungrier. "But if you really want to know... I wanted you here. On my team. Close to me." His fingers barely grazed my side, a ghost of a touch. "To break you." Another pause, a smirk I could hear in his voice. "To touch you." His breath fanned against my skin, heat curling down my spine. "I shall never tell," the Queen replied. Without another word the man thrust the dagger into her and Adrastea let out an involuntary scream, quickly covering her mouth. But it was too late. The Human snapped his head around and looked at the door. His face was square and dirty, with a scruffy blond beard and a long scar across his forehead, nose, and cheek. Adrastea stared with wide eyes at the horrid thing, still covering her mouth. The man leaped for the door and the Princess jumped back as it swung open, running as fast as her legs would carry her back down the hall. "GUARDS!" she screamed hoarsely, dashing up the stairs. She could hear the man's footsteps right behind her but did not dare look back. "GUARDS!" Adrastea yelled again. Reaching the top of the stairs the young Princess halted, looking down the empty hall. The guards were gone.
