Dumbledore sent Regulus to get that Horcrux to take down the Dark Lord! He knew he had to do it! It was his lifelong dream since he learned of the evil wizard, but over time, he realized that Dumbledore was just as wrong, especially when he lied to the media about his death; he was sent to a small village in upper Scotland away from the highlands. 

On the other hand, Remus had to live with the fact that he never got to tell Regulus his authentic and genuine feelings for him. Once he heard the announcement, he knew it was too late, but he knew he had to take the Dark Lord down for his lifelong love and do it in his honor. 

After ten years, someone from his past sent a letter to Remus.
