Kook is the Crown Prince to a kingdom, and Tae is his stepcousin. The Queen's sister passed away recently, and she had raised Tae from birth after one of her maidservants had been raped then killed herself after giving birth to Tae. The Queen accepted Tae into the castle as one of her own, because he was well educated, and next in line for the throne after Kook.

The King is severely sick with an incurable heart disease, and he has no more than three years to live. He had decided to spend those three years with the one woman he truly loves the most, so he told Kook that he would be King once he finds a wife to bear him an heir.

But a few weeks before the Bride Ball, Tae arrives on their doorstep, charming and well-mannered. The King and Queen assigned him to be Kook's first royal advisor, from the moment he becomes coronated.

Yet, as the two grow closer and closer, each telling their sorrows, Kook realizes that, perhaps, he might never find a wife to bear him children.
