"Run. Run hard little one, you are so remarkably close." She spent her life living in the shadows of her family, but little did they know the monster they created, just like the ones that hide in plain sight. They creep around at night, and you don't see them unless you are over those 50-foot walls. You only hear their vicious symphony of roars as they rumble and shake the earth around you. Being part of quads is arduous work, but she was always the best, not like that mattered. She was always overshadowed by the older of the quads. That makes her want to prove herself even more. As for her parents? Who needs them? Certainly not the quads, and certainly not her, she can survive it, just like she will survive crossing that rope on her 16th birthday, or as it's more commonly known across the southern hemisphere, Redemption Day. Maybe. Unless she falls to her untimely death. Top grades. Top monster. The difference? One is clear as day while the other is hidden until the cover of night.

For over a hundred years, humanity has lived in fear of the monsters that roam the streets, lurking in the drains below. Women and their daughters hide, protected in their homes, while men take their sons through the world, teaching them the responsibilities of having a family to feed and dangers to avoid. No one leaves the home unless it's essential, and most of the world prefers it that way. Until one girl spends her days perched on her window seat, looking down at the world below and dreaming of a different life. Her eyes are always drawn to the dark, ominous drains in the street, the ones that often blink open to swallow and person whole. One day, that person is her little brother, snatched right in front of her from their arms of their father and gone forever. When a person is snatched, they never return, and life goes on without them. But she can't accept that. Breaking all the rules, all the things she's ever known, she braves the world outside her little townhouse and goes on a mission into the darkness to find her brother. Only, it's soon her that becomes the one lost to the drains. To survive she must rediscover her world, and in the process, rediscover herself. She will be reunited with old friends, gain new ones, find out deeper secrets about her past than she ever could have imagined, and learn that the world is even more corrupt than she always thought. *** This story contains sexist ideology, mention of cheating, some gruesome scenes, and a whole lot of monsters and darkness. It isn't overly mature... there isn't much explicit language or sexual scenes, but there is a bit of violence, so just keep that in mind... and despite all that negativity, ENJOY!
