"Were you ever going to tell me you can play this well?" she asked Graydon, not bothering to hide her irritation.
He shrugged and stood, retrieving his drink.
"What? And have to fight over the piano as well? No thanks." he said, mockingly, though Eden was pretty sure she could swap the words 'the piano' with 'my grandfather's love' and get the true meaning of his words.
"You're really good" she insisted, less abrasively "I'm serious, Gray. I actually... enjoyed that."
He cocked an eyebrow and laughed, mirthlessly and looked as though he were going to say something, but then changed his mind.
"He used to play that with his mother." George offered, then to Gray he added "I haven't heard you play in ages, Gray. Eden is right, you are really good. You two should play together more."
Gray downed the rest of his drink and eyed Eden's for a beat.
"You're right, we should." he said, approaching the sideboard, and his unreadable expression gave her the impression his words might have had a second meaning, which caused heat to flood her cheeks "How about that drink, Nod?" he added, visibly enjoying her annoyance at his use of the old moniker.
She still remembered the first time he had called her that. She had been forced to look up the damn word and she had not been impressed at the realization he had taken his pretentiousness to a new level by finding the word for the antithesis to the Garden of Eden.
"Eat shit and die" she mouthed, but when he brought her a drink, she took it and sipped it thankfully.
"Can't wait for the compelling dinner conversation," he mocked.
"Likewise." she retorted and lifted her glass to him.

My palm cracked against his cheek before I even realised I'd raised it. He froze, then smiled-slow, cruel, like he saw something ugly inside me I tried so hard to hide. And then his hand shot up, fingers sliding into my hair.... enough to make me meet his eyes. Enough to remind me how easily he could close the distance between anger and something darker. "You think this makes you brave?" "No," I said. "It makes me done being scared." "Do that again," his breath touch my cheek, "and I'll make sure you never forget how I'll ruin you." I laughed breathlessly. "You already did. You've been ruining me since the day I stepped into this place." He smirked. "If that's what you call ruined, Sunshine, you haven't seen anything yet." "Obsessed. Psychotic. You can't stand not being in control, can you?" He leaned in, voice cutting. "Control? No. I just hate losing. And I hate you more than anyone I've ever met." "Leave me alone... demon," I managed, "stay out of my life." hating the tremor in my tone. He stared at me. "Demons never let go of their prey." his thumb brushes on my lower lip. "Until you do what I say." He stepped back and took off his jacket and held the jacket out between us. "You want me to leave you alone?" He said slowly like a challenge disguised as mercy. I crossed my arms. "What are you doing?" "Making it official." "Official?" He stepped closer, so close I could feel the faint heat still clinging to the leather. "You'll wear this," his grey eyes locked on mine. "You'll wear my jacket. Every time you feel it, every time someone looks at you, you'll remember who made you take it. You'll remember me and I'll stay away." For a heartbeat, I stared at him, hated him for how much I understood his madness. How he twists me, questioning my own sanity, using every crack in me as a weapon. Would Elara choose peace over him? Tale of vengeance, obsession and defiance. Dark academia aesthetic. Morally heroes, slow-burning romance. Enemies-to-lovers.

I asked softly. "Nobody wants to re-live those." "Maybe not, but that's the entirety of it," he answered, raising his hand to brush away the hair from my face before tucking it behind my ear. "There's always good in the bad, and bad in the good. Balance." His fingers trailed down my arm, sending shock waves through me. "Can I tell you something?" I asked softly. The corner of his lips curved upwards in a small smile. "You can tell me anything."

"Well," she said sweetly, fake as hell. "Jude's a great guy. You know, polite and handsome. Such a gentleman." "That so?" I muttered, voice dark. "Too bad I don't give a fuck what kind of gentleman he is." I leaned in, lips ghosting hers. Close, but not touching. "But we both know he can't get on his knees and eat your pussy like I do. Can't fuck you the way I do. Can't make you beg. Can't make you scream. Can't break you the way you like it." I dragged my fingers up her thigh, slow, stopping just short of her slick center. "In case you've forgotten..." I didn't finish the sentence. I wanted her to feel it. I wanted her to fucking remember. She sucked in a breath, tried to play it off with a smirk. "You're so full of yourself. If you were that good, I wouldn't have wandering eyes." I grabbed her chin firm, but not rough. "You don't have wandering eyes," I said, low and dangerous. C O M P L E T E D "Date me," he spins the whiskey around in the glass and fixes me with a smirk. I roll my eyes the moment the words roll off his tongue. "Are you really that desperate?" I scoff in response, fighting back the ever prominent blush. His smirk widens as my face flushes red and he leans over the countertop towards me. I step back. "Name your price," he replies, his words cool and smooth like ice cream. Only I would reference food at a moment like this. Anger rolls around in the pit of my stomach; I may not have money but I have morals. "You can't buy people, Grant," The words fall out of my mouth and he recoils as if slapped. I'm glad. Stupid rich boy and his player ways. "Bet I can," I resist the urge to slap the smug look of his face and scoff again. "Right," I drag out the word, rolling my eyes. I step away from the counter and turn my back on him, desperate to leave. But he speaks again. "Date me. Two months. If you fall for me for my money, I win. If I fall for you for who you really are, you win." I consider this for a moment. I have nothing to loose and really not much to gain. But I'm so desperate to put the asshole in his place that I can't resist. I'm a sucker for a bet. "Deal."
