The oasis was usually a calm place.


Until today.


The tan boy had dove into the bushes, sensing danger.


Branches snapped. Leaves tore. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn't human.


The rustling came to an abrupt stop. The boy clutched his dagger close to his  chest, his ears roaring. His breath was heavy in his lungs.


He felt a breath on his neck. It was a brash, rancid breath that made the hairs on his neck stand on end.


Choked up, he spun around and came face to face with the biggest dragon he had ever seen.
