Sally McCain is a second-year college student whose escape from her unconventional childhood to her university came just in time.

Growing up with a slacker stepdad, two younger reliant siblings, and a mother who wasn't too bright, they had to fight through tough times with hardly at money what with her stepdad Gil's failing novelty shop.

When Gil passes away and her mother falls into a state of depression, it's up to Sal to bring the family through.

With the novelty shop having been left to her, she has to figure out a way to make it profitable... and how to go back to college.

Told by Sal herself, the tale is a delightful mix of funny, snarky, and sad, and uplifting as a whole.

Little did she know, one of her first matches would be Monty King, her high school boyfriend's older brother. She can't deny her attraction to him or how he makes her feel, but she knows this is a mess just waiting to happen. Montgomery King may have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but that wasn't the life he wanted to live. He never fit in with the lifestyle his upper-class parents tried to force him into and he never got along with his lazy brother who was more than happy to lazily mooch off the family dollar. He took the first chance he could to join the military and do something better with his life. His years in the military are well done and he's still avoided his family and their money-hungry ways until his company relocates to his hometown. The only good part about the move is reconnecting with Iris Howell, even if she is his brother's ex-girlfriend. Iris isn't looking for a relationship and certainly isn't trying to find herself tied down with another King brother and she has good reason not to. However, Monty is making it his new mission to show her that she was with the wrong brother before.
