Sally McCain is a second-year college student whose escape from her unconventional childhood to her university came just in time.

Growing up with a slacker stepdad, two younger reliant siblings, and a mother who wasn't too bright, they had to fight through tough times with hardly at money what with her stepdad Gil's failing novelty shop.

When Gil passes away and her mother falls into a state of depression, it's up to Sal to bring the family through.

With the novelty shop having been left to her, she has to figure out a way to make it profitable... and how to go back to college.

Told by Sal herself, the tale is a delightful mix of funny, snarky, and sad, and uplifting as a whole.
