Iridescent means showing luminous colors that seem to change when seen from different angles. Like the definition of Iridescent, sex/human trafficking comes in different forms and can affect anyone of any race. Iridescent is about sex trafficking and different forms of sex/human trafficking. This is the first book out of hopefully many more sequels to come.
Forced into an arranged marriage at the tender age of 16, Xīn yí finds herself trapped in a loveless union, her heart imprisoned in a cage of societal norms and familial duty. "Iridescent: The Veil" is a heart-wrenching tale of a girl who has never known happiness, not even the day she was born. Xīn yí's story is a poignant exploration of the struggles that many face when navigating the fine line between tradition and personal happiness. Amidst the turmoil and heartache, Xīn yí discovers the power of self-discovery and resilience, proving that even in the darkest of times, there is a glimmer of hope. As she battles the constraints of a stifling culture, she finds allies, mentors, and love in unexpected places, propelling her toward an uncertain but promising future. Xīn yí's story is a reminder that, no matter the circumstances, it is never too late to find happiness and, more importantly, to discover one's own worth.

Set in Tang Dynasty, on a small farm in China, Peizhi Jiang, lives a quiet life with her family far from the outside world. Her mixed race background prevents her from stepping foot off the farm, having to occupy herself with mundane tasks. Despite making peace with this promise, fulfilled with her family's love, she longs to see the world and meet new faces that aren't the same ones she wakes up to.
It isn't until a childhood friend of Peizhi's mother, Lady Xiaomeng, pays a visit to seek a good wife for her mysterious son, Zian Xiaomeng, to pay back a debt. In return, the wife shall live nobly and of certain status. To much discretion, that daughter becomes Peizhi. A bittersweet moment that also presents an opportunity not to only support her family, but better her life and future generations. So she accepts the marriage.
Unprepared for a world she did not expect nor sign up for, Peizhi faces many struggles and challenges within her marriage and the environment around her. Including her husband, who is the kindest man on the outside but harbors a vengeful spirit that consumes him whole on the inside.
Something isn't right about him.
He's always gone. He always meets with suspicious people and discusses acts of war. There's always red spots on his clothes when he returns. There's always a rumor surrounding his name. He'd even once offered Peizhi a chance annul their marriage and never look back.
And hidden under their bed, is a red tassel attached to a gold bar inscribed with characters and a red dragon that always brings out a mixed reaction once revealed.
His secrets are too heavy to bear on one's shoulders, a permanent outcome is only inevitable.
