Even though her brother couldn't come to terms with the news that his childhood best friend and his younger sister had been dating behind his back for over a year.
The girl didn't think that over the years of friendship and then relationship with Barnes, she would become so attached to him that she would jump into fire for him. However, this "fire" turned out to be service in the United States Army in 1939.
