The day of Melissa's father's funeral is a day she will never forget- the day her 24 year old brother, Tom, first starts to abuse her, which caused her to become mute. After people started asking questions, Tom forced him, their mother, and Melissa to move from the state of Tennessee to the small town of Nickeltown, South Dakota.
