The day of Melissa's father's funeral is a day she will never forget- the day her 24 year old brother, Tom, first starts to abuse her, which caused her to become mute. Every day from then on, she is tortured by her own brother, a man whom she thought she could trust. After people started asking questions, Tom forced him, their mother, and Melissa to move from the state of Tennessee to the small town of Nickeltown, South Dakota. She has made herself a promise that she will not make any friends and she will not talk to anyone in order not to move again. However, she catches one boy's eye- the bad boy Scott Wright. Will Scott be able to break Melissa out of her shell? Or is it already too late for his help?

Alice was a shy girl with a bright future ahead. She was brilliantly smart from all the studying she did to keep away from her alcoholic father. Alice also got bullied a lot because she was an outsider. She put on a brave face but little did anyone know how she was breaking inside. Keith was the town bad boy who came from a broken home not quite like Alice's. He had a mom, a step dad whom he hated, a step sister and a steps brother whom he also hated. He was also super smart but never felt motivated to use it. Everyone was scared of him for his rough and tumble attitude that usually got him in trouble. What happens when these two unlikely people are forced to cross paths in an assignment that would soon change their lives? *Warning- very, very strong language at times and violence
