Penelope Langston always knew she was going to be Queen. Betrothed at a young age to the Crown Prince, all Penelope has learned is to be the perfect Queen and partner: poised and graceful with a shrewd mind and a sharp intellect along with a silver tongue, a perfect companion to navigate the harsher aspects of the political life. But when the Crown Prince suddenly announces that he's fallen in love and wishes to marry another, all of Penelope's carefully constructed life crumbles to pieces in front of her. And as compensation for this sudden blow, she now has to marry the Crown Prince's younger brother, Prince Damien, a known reclusive warrior, who has been dubbed as "The Shadow Prince" by the other Nobles.
Now thrust into a marriage that she didn't want, she burns for the position that was always meant to be hers. And as she navigates her new life, she finds that her reclusive husband has secrets of his own and her once betrothed was never the chivalrous knight he has always claimed to be.
Armed with secrets and her intellect, Penelope seeks to gain power, no matter the cost. And if she has to step over the ruins of the man who broke her dreams in order to be Queen, then so be it.
