Being a superhero isn't everything it's cracked up to be - trust me, I speak from experience. People always have it out for you, the uniforms are tight and uncomfortable (though the capes are pretty cool), and you can't show anyone your actual face or else you'll be tracked down by these bad dudes.
I had tried to ignore my powers for a long time, but all of a sudden people that were close to me started dying.
All the clues pointed to the same person: Valance - the dark, ominous shape-shifter that had been striking terror in the hearts of innocent citizens for over a year now.
But now it's time to take this jerk down, and I can't wait to see the look on his (presumably) ugly face when I do.

Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? "I told you before, my dad left it to me, I swear." I said truthfully. She looked at me for a few seconds, thinking. I couldn't shake the feeling that everything about her was cold. "Well, even if you don't know anything, she'll come for you. And I will have the answers I want." She said with indifference before adding huskily in my ear. "And... I think we can have some fun together while you stay. Don't you agree?" She said as she laughed again and gave me her signature smile. (History) Hi my name is Serenity, and I have a secret I must tell, because you see I am immortal, which means that I cannot die no matter what, like for example you shoot 100 bullets at my heart I won't die. When I first realized I was immortal was when I was trying to save a friend but the bullet went right through my heart and killed her. Her name was Sarah, and she was the only person that accepted me being immortal. You see what happened was, she said that she was going to tell people that were scared of me that I was a normal person, but she said that to someone who really hated me and that was her brother, Ian, even though he may be hot, he can be a full on jerk. Nearly everyone at school knows that. But, the one thing I don't get is why he hates me. I can understands if he hated me after his sister died, but it didn't mean that he had to tell the police that I killed her, as I didn't, he did. He is such a bloody liar. One day I will get revenge on her, but that will happen once I get out of here. At the moment I am in jail, I've been telling the police that I didn't kill Sarah, but they still don't believe me. The chick in the cell next to me whose name was Raquel said that they won't believe anyone as they have heard too much shit from other prisoners. Raquel said that she did a pretty bad crime, and she been in prison for around 10 years. I am worried that I am going to have to stay for 10 years for something I didn't do.
