In the world of Inopia mages stand on the top of the food chain, their power is absolute so every child dreams of become one. At birth every child possesses slight magic abilities of no particular element, generally limited to levitation of small things like rocks or the occasional scoop of mashed potato. Upon reaching the age of thirteen a child will partake in a coming of age ceremony. The ceremony involves a magical implement referred to as an "inspector". The inspector reads a persons elemental affinity from one of eight, fire, ice, water, earth, electricity, plants, life or death. The inspector also activates ones mana, which in turn tells their class. Mages are split into five categories: Festers, Benders, Channelers, Summoners and Mancers. When using magic, a mages pupils will change shaped based on their class. There is one other option, the most common possibility that most children have occur is that the child will loose all connection to magic, forcing them to live without possessing any true power of their own.
