Mae of Wessex - the rightful Queen, because of marriage to King Æthelred of Wessex!

It's the 9th century - Mae is a talented, beautiful, smart and fun-loving young girl who has lived in Wessex/Winchester for as long as she can remember!

But when suddenly her parents and her siblings pass away, she falls into a deep black hole and becomes a mean, cold-hearted and heartless girl! She no longer even enjoys her favourite pastime, horse riding, and the whole of Winchester is in deep distress!

Then, one day, King Æthelred asks for her hand in marriage after his wife Wulfthryth, unexpectedly dies! Mae thought about it for a few days and then told King Æthelred her decision - she would be the next Queen of Wessex!

He couldn't be happier and his son Æthelwold couldn't be angrier! Æthelwold despised his father for what he did to this poor girl, but soon Æthelwold learned to despise Mae too!

After one stroke of fate followed another and King Æthelred was badly wounded in a battle with the Danes and returned to Wessex and died a few days later, he was succeeded on the throne by his younger brother, Alfred and Alfred's wife, Ælswith became the new Queen!

Mae was pushed off the throne, her rock was dead, his son despised her and she despised him and then to make matters worse there was him - Uhtred Ragnarsson! She noticed him the day he came to Winchester, but she had no idea that one day she would be so madly in love with him!

Years passed, Mae was now married to Uhtred, met his men and fought every day for her throne! It was an impertinence to steal her throne and every inhabitant of Winchester saw it the same way!

But she would not get her throne back...not in this life, not if Ælswith lived! But she didn't want to kill the poor woman either - that wasn't her style!

Will she ever get what she has longed for since the death of her first husband?

Perhaps through a Dane she befriended?
