In the little city of Guelph, during the 1940s, lives a rich family. The patriarch, Nigel Olderson, owns a distillery, and at the same time looks after his family. He lives with his brother Marcus, and his sister in law. Nigel himself raises five children, and Marcus has three. However, Nigel has contempt for his youngest child, and the child, Timothy, doesn't know why. The mentalities of the family members are rich and diverse, some making self discoveries, while others try to cope with the impending war.
