"You're not regretting your decision, are you?" A
Silvery voice snapped my eyes open. The man joined me leaning against the ship. The thick fabric of his jacket brushing carelessly against my shoulder, standing just closer than I'd realized he was.
"No, not at all." I responded. "What gave you that impression?" He shrugged his eyes moving from the water to me.
"Just checking. We're still close enough if you jumped ship now you could probably swim back." He laughed mostly to himself, the sound causing a warm feeling to pool on the pit of my stomach.
"I don't think I'll be doing any swimming tonight." I smiled back returning a laugh. "You're not trying to get rid of me already are you?"
He gave me an exaggerated gasp. Raising a hand appalled by such an accusation. "I wouldn't dream of it." A small giggle escaped my lips, the tips of my ears burning. His smile grew wider, the red lip overstating his own. Eyes. Look at his eyes Don't look at his lips. I scolded myself, though if I were being honest his eyes weren't much safer. I shook the thoughts away bringing my eyes from his lips to his eyes to the sea. Sea is safe.
