Having his parents get taken for speaking out against the empire at the ripe old age of eight ( Being born year before the empire set about) Ezra Bridger wasn't about to admit defeat, especially to the people who had killed his parents. Spending the first part of his time alone learning to survive the streets of Lothal as it was gradually taken hold of by the empire.
During his 12th birthday he made a decision, one that would no doubt cause the empire more than enough trouble should he actually make it out alive.
